VinFast increased battery rental prices for VF 8 and VF 9, adding the option to buy batteries outright
(Dan Tri) – From September 1, customers who buy VF 8 and VF 9 cars will only have one battery rental package with the fee doubled compared to before. In addition, customers can also buy cars with batteries but the price is significantly more expensive.
Before September 1, VinFast launched two battery rental options with VF 8 and VF 9, including Flexible package and Fixed package (unlimited monthly kilometers used).

New battery rental and purchase rates
Specifically, the cost of renting a new battery for VF 8 is 4.95 million VND/month, VF 9 is 6.49 million VND/month.
In the first sale, VF 8 has a package battery rental price of 2,189 million VND/month and VF 9 is 3,091 million VND/month.
Customers who have made a deposit before September 1 will still have the old battery rental rate applied throughout the product life cycle and can switch between 2 Flexible and Fixed packages with a conversion fee of 4.12 million VND/time.
In addition, VinFast also announced a new car sales policy, in which customers can choose to buy the battery outright at the following prices:
From this figure, it can be seen that the battery pack for VF 8 alone costs nearly 400 million VND and the battery pack for VF 9 is nearly 500 million VND.
With the new battery rental price, customers owning VF 8 will pay nearly 60 million VND/year, and VF 9 about 78 million VND/year.
With the battery purchase price, VF 8 (VND 1,478-1,646 billion) becomes the most expensive car model in the D-size high chassis segment. Competitors using gasoline and diesel engines such as Kia Sorento, Hyundai Santa Fe, Mazda CX-8,
VF 9 has an advantage, even with the option to buy with a battery, the price of 1.97-2,178 billion VND is still the lowest in the E-size segment. Competitors such as Volkswagen Teramont or Ford Explorer are all over 2.3 billion VND.
The problem of costs and demand stimulation from VinFast
Battery rental is a solution that Vietnamese car companies offer to support customers who want to use electric cars but cannot or do not want to pay in one go.
However, the car company will be under considerable financial pressure with customers paying in monthly installments, similar to giving buyers a loan without interest.

VinFast representative said that about 65,000 customers ordered these two car models before September 1.
According to some experts, VinFast’s new battery rental policy is actually a psychological move to convert groups of customers with actual needs and speculative groups.
Speculation groups, when they get the price, will push it out to customers in need, from there it will be easier for VinFast to control orders.
In addition, when buying back deposits from the pioneer group, customers still have benefits such as vouchers deducted directly from the car price and good pricing policies.
VinFast VF 8 and VF 9 are scheduled to be delivered about 2 months later than expected.
