(Dan Tri) – Negotiations to end the conflict with Ukraine may take place when the Kiev government changes, said Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev.

`The problem is not him (Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky). The problem is that the current leadership in Ukraine must accept to leave,` Mr. Medvedev said in an interview with Russian media on May 22.

Then, he emphasized, `completely different people will appear, those who are aware of their responsibility for the future of Ukraine. When there are such people, we will somehow be able to negotiate.`

He once again affirmed that Russia is not opposed to negotiations with the Ukrainian government, but the problem is that the West cannot convince its supporters to participate in this process.

`We do not refuse negotiations even with this group, but you know what they (Ukraine) did: Ukraine banned these negotiations and even the attempts of Western countries to promote them

Mr. Medvedev seemed to be referring to the fact that the President of Ukraine at the end of 2022 issued a decree banning negotiations with the administration of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

In the interview, Mr. Medvedev also said that the West’s calls for a ceasefire in Ukraine are mainly based on the calculation that Russia will accept a halt to the `special military campaign`.

`If we talk about signals that it’s time to pause, it’s time to negotiate, then of course, to a large extent, this is a wise move. But it would be unwise if the proposals

He also said that the Western media publishing articles saying that it would be difficult for Ukraine to defeat Russia also serves this purpose.

`Previously, their calculation was to completely defeat Russia on the battlefield and in fact Russia had to deal with the West. Their media at that time were filled with headlines that Russia is about to collapse, Russia is not strong enough to resist.

He believes that the scale of the current conflict in Ukraine may not be limited to the current level. Instead, Moscow needs to expand if it wants to achieve the goal of the special military campaign.

`Where to stop? I’m not sure. We have a lot of work to do if we want to establish a safe buffer zone. We will need to return to Kiev, if not now then at some point in the future,

According to him, Russia needs to send troops back to control Kiev because this city `has Russian origin, but has been controlled by an international apparatus against Russia led by the US`.
